Notes to Self is a limited edition 2D/3D graphic memoir, mapping a ten-year-long journey of my obsessive Type-A attempts to out-maneuver my existential dread. Across five chapters, the pages flip to reveal an encased miniature diorama, moving forward in time while simultaneously descending downwards into the metaphorical basement — a place to reckon with everything cast aside, forgotten, or ignored along the way. The bell jar serves as a symbol of my self-awareness, a fishbowl that turns my life into an exhibit for viewing, entertainment and analysis. The pages contain the evidentiary support — photographs, screenshots, emails, invoices — that links fluid memory back to the hard-edged real world. The book is filled with overlapping notes from my past, present, and future selves that simulate the disorienting cacophony of an over-engineered mind. This book is a record of the sophisticated machine of self-preservation I built to reconcile with the necessary evil of growing up, the cost of maintaining it, and the ultimate realization that even the best machines eventually run their course.
